Boiler Chemicals

Scaling and corrosion are the two key heads that adversely affect boiler system efficiency. Different treatments are used to avoid scaling, corrosion, and/or foaming. While external treatment of feed water deals with removal of impurities prior to boilers, internal treatment of the boilers deal with the tendency of water to dissolve, maintaining troublesome impurities before they can be removed from the boiler in boiler blowdown.

Boiler Water Treatment Chemicals

Boiler Corrosion Inhibitor

Oxygen content in boiler feed water creates corrosion problems on mechanically stressed areas. The process is further accelerated under high temperatures and low pH conditions. Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) and pitting corrosion leads to pitting or pinpoint penetration of pipelines, resulting in leaks and tube failures. Corrosion may further lead to fouling when these precipitated metals settle onto heat exchange surfaces and reduces system life. KL Solutions range of boiler corrosion inhibitors ensure boiler systems and steam plants run at optimum efficiency, averting harmful effects of scaling and corrosion.

Boiler Oxygen Scavenger

Oxygen scavengers or absorbers help remove or decrease the dissolved oxygen content in boiler systems to prevent oxygen induced corrosion.

Benefits of oxygen scavenging:

  • Maximized throughput
  • Increased production efficiency
  • Improved water quality and injection
  • Increase operational reliability, health and safety compliance

Descaling Chemicals

Impurities precipitated out of water onto heat transfer surfaces cause hotspots leading to local overheating. Scaling overtime lowers boiler efficiency by heat retardation, and eventually scale built-up causes the tube to overheat and rupture.

The principle factors being:

  • Calcium magnesium iron aluminium silica concentration
  • Alkalinity
  • High temperatures
  • Higher TDS value
  • Insufficient blowdown rate
  • Low condensate re-circulation

Boiler pH Regulation

Boiler water corrosion is controlled by keeping the pH levels alkaline, which causes a layer of oxide on the tube surfaces protecting the base metal from further corrosion.
